Safety Practices
Tim Andrews has given considerable thought and effort to bringing us up to speed in this area. This entire page is dedicated to the subject of shop safety.
New content is coming. It will be good.
Future capabilities of the Safety Program would include a system that records who has viewed the prescribed YouTube videos.
Sample form layout below. A preview of the information we'd like to keep track of for each supervisor is illustrated below.
Table Saws, Prestart Checklist:
Ensure that the height of the blade is only just higher than the piece of timber being cut. The blade should be no higher than 1/4 inch (6mm) higher than the timber.
Always deenergize at main disconnect before changing the blade or carrying out any other maintenance
Make sure that the blade has completely stopped before you make any adjustments to the table saw.
After any adjustment, make sure that the blade is free before you turn on the power.
Make sure that the surface of the table is smooth and clear of debris as can be. rough surfaces.
Ensure that the fence is parallel (see SawStop specifications) to the blade.
Check that the throat plate fits exactly in cutout and has a slot just slightly larger than the blade. Never operate a table saw without the throat plate.
Keep all anti-kickback devices and safety equipment enabled and set up correctly.
Make sure that the timber has no nails or screws etc.
Do not use the fence and a miter gauge at the same time.
